A Tribute to a Departed Hero

Professor Geoff Wood

Professor Geoff Wood by Colin Towers (from FB April '21):

When we first rolled up at Strathclyde in the autumn of ’86, Prof Geoff Wood drew the short straw and was assigned as my mentor. There were a few occasions during the 4 years when I was ready to throw in the towel, but Prof. Wood kept me on track. My attendance wasn’t great, he knew why and did a lot behind the scenes to mitigate that. That I even completed my degree is due in no small measure to his kind words and support over the 4 years.
We kept in touch after graduation, with news and Christmas cards every year. A genuinely lovely man, he passed away last May aged 93. Thanks, Prof. Wood.
